Presenting this extremely special opportunity to work with us and established Art Directors and film makers on a high-level 9-month course designed to develop you skills to a professional standard as an Art Director for the film industry. We will introduce you to aspects of Art Direction and Production Design so that you have an understanding of both disciplines.
This course in Set Design for Film and TV (Production Design) is aimed at students who might have already worked in film and television, have already gained a degree and wish to learn professional practice, wish to develop a portfolio and working practice without the commitment to a 2-year degree course or from various backgrounds. Students who have not studied a degree or equivalent and wish to earn a 2-year accredited HND course in Set Design for Film and TV (Production Design) should instead look at our HND programme.
The course is led by practising and acclaimed professional Production Designer, Sue Ferguson, who can share her expertise and knowledge from many years working in the film and television industry.
This design course gives students a solid grounding in film art direction and production design processes. Students learn the practical skills to take an idea from script to delivery in both theoretical and live projects and have the opportunity to actualise their designs in the film school studio and/or on location on film school shoots.
Project work will be undertaken alongside workshops and studio study, incorporating theory, research and practical skills to give a holistic understanding of the design process and contextual base on which to develop professional working methods.
Art and design skills taught on this course are transferable to, and relevant for, wide ranging career paths and professions. They are useful tools on the route to installation based work, theatre design, exhibition and interior design and project management.
Brighton Film School is an industry respected education and training institution, fitted out with a full suite of Macs and kitted out with the very best in HD and film equipment with a specialist facility and art department which is a professional simulation of a working film studio.
The last term focuses on your progression plans - making links for possible employment or even further study. We will develop your work for submission to festivals and the continuation of developing ideas for future projects.

This course runs for 9 months and is usually 2 full days with extra days scheduled around guest speakers and filming days.
This course starts in September 2017 and will finish end of June 2018.
Selection is by application and interview with a portfolio preferred. A degree in a related discipline and/or evidence of industry experience or evidence of artistic endeavor or creativity is required. We accept students from a variety of backgrounds.
