Universal Pictures visit Brighton Film School

Brighton Film School welcomed a major player in the British film industry today, in the form of Andy Leyshon, Sales Director at Universal Pictures. Andy and his team have the responsibility of choosing when and where you get to see your favourite Universal releases in the cinema and is also part of the team that selects which films get distributed throughout the UK.

Andy has been been behind some of the biggest distribution deals in the UK over the last few years, including the smash-hit Mamma-Mia, Kick-Ass and Downfall to name just a few. Andy came in to speak to our Filmmaking HNC students about his experiences in the film industry, how he reached his position, the role of a major distributor and how important genre and star power is to a films release and chances of making a profit.

The students found it an invaluable experience as they gained insight from an industry professional who is working at the very top-end of distribution in the UK - particularly those who have aspirations to make feature films. In the question and answer session afterwards, more than one student approached Andy to talk about distributing their films in the future!

Andy Leyshon's visit was part of the Filmmaking HNC programme and the Brighton Film Schools commitement to providing expert industry guest speakers for the students here. Brighton Film School are accepting applications for their degree-level Filmmaking HNC course and also industry respected Cinematography and Directing Diploma - both of which start this September 2013.
