Brighton Film School launch new film competition
Are you a talented young filmmaker in need of financial help to gain the qualifications that could launch your career?
Brighton Film School is offering a £1,000 bursary to a student applying for a place on its Filmmaking HNC/HND course, to be used as a contribution towards the fees. The bursary is open to anyone who meet the HNC course entry requirements, or are predicted to meet them.
Entrants are requested to submit a piece that demonstrates their passion for film and creativity.
This can be in the form of:
- A short filmed piece (no longer than three minutes)
- A storyboard showing an idea for a short film
- A pitch for a short drama or documentary (no longer than two sides of A4)
- A filmed or written statement explaining why the applicant deserves to win the bursary (up to two minutes or one side of A4)
The course focuses on the practical elements of filmmaking, with training in HD and Film using high quality professional equipment. Students will produce a short film, music promo and study lighting camera techniques and editing, as well as drawing on theory and research, to gain an in-depth knowledge of the film and television industry.
There will also be regular sessions by acclaimed guest lecturers who share their industry experience and knowledge. Last year these speakers included Brian Tufano, Director of Photography (Trainspotting, Billy Elliott, Shallow Grave, Quadrophenia, East Is East and Kidulthood), Lydia Currie, 1st AD (Ashes to Ashes and Rev), Mark Atkins, Editor (Biggie and Tupac and Kurt and Courtney), as well as local production companies and independent filmmakers.
The HNC is the equivalent to the first year of a degree. Students generally progress onto the HND course in the second year or straight into the film or television industry.
Entries should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org and the deadline for applications is 4th December 2012.
The winner will be notified by 12th December and an announcement will be made on the Brighton Film School website and Facebook page. For full bursary entry requirements, terms and conditions, or more information about the course, go to www.brightonfilmschool or call 01273 602070.
