Brighton Film School first year filmmaking students have created bespoke music video productions for new and upcoming artists signed with Tru Thoughts to celebrate creative talents either side of the camera.
‘Cherry Glow’ is the lead single from London-based producer, singer and songwriter Rhi, lifted from her first self-produced album ‘Reverie’. The single was released on Friday 13th October and the music video was created and produced by Brighton Film School filmmakers.
Jack Matthews was the editor and camera operator on this exciting project. He said: “Working on a music video production was intense but worthwhile. Much like a film, the principal photography was virtually the same, thanks to Brighton Film School helping us gain our ‘industry legs’ in traditional and contemporary studio practice.”
Paul Jonas, Managing Director of Tru Thoughts Records, is extremely pleased with the final product. He said: “This was a really enjoyable process taking a newly signed act to get her first video made by the students at the Brighton Film School. We are really pleased with the outcome and Rhi enjoyed working with the students.”
Learning by doing is at the heart of Brighton Film School’s ethos. On the music video project, students work with a real client, developing ideas suitable for their style and audience. Working in crews, the students plan, produce and deliver a final music video, liaising with the client throughout the process to ensure that the finished film meets their requirements.
Filmmaking student Jack Matthews thought the music video production project was a great learning curve in the world of filmmaking. He said: “Overall, we had an amazing time working around obstacles whilst simultaneously gaining experience in another form of video production. We were virtually left alone to discover our strengths and weaknesses both as individuals and as a team, but we always knew that help was literally around the corner back at the film school if we needed it. An amazing experience and something to add to our CVs and build our portfolio!”
